‘Rat-run’ gates?

Hi, just a quick query – I’d heard that the SS was coordinating input regarding the location of a possible gate in the lane between the East end of Nithsdale Road and Regent Park Square, and was looking for input on this. I’d like to say that if this is the case, my preference would go for the north end of that lane rather than the south. The reason is simple – I have lived at the top of the flat that constitutes part of the gable wall on the west side of that lane for over ten years. This gable wall is the only one that sits on the border of the lane – the others (at both ends of the lane) sit back a few metres. Whenever a vehicke travels down the lane, the vibrations travel directly up the wall, causing the cupboards to shake and the glass to chink. There is also a fracture in that gable wall which is causing water ingress to the tenement block – whether or not it was caused by that lane being used as a ‘rat-run’, this usage is certainly exacerbating the problem.
Hope this is useful – and thanks for your time.

Thanks for your helpful comments on this ongoing issue. Your information is correct and the Strathbungo Society are working with the Council to promote such an initiative. When we reconvene next month after the summer break, this will be one of our main topics to progress. We will take on board your suggestions, however a more extensive consultation will take place later this year before a scheme is properly moved forward as we want to engage fully with the local community to achieve the most appropriate outcome. Your continued input at that stage would be much appreciated.

I’m sorry but as Strathbungo resident I do not agree with this proposal for a bollard/gate at the end of this lane. To access Nithsdale rd via Pollokshaws rd in the morning adds about 15mins on to the journey and the only people that really would use this lane are Strathbungo residents. The lanes are in such a bad state that i cannot see anyone driving fast down the lane and there are no garages that back on to this lane (the one near the pollokshaws rd end).
A much more pressing concern is the ludicrous and highly dangerous parking situation on Moray place where a small group of residents continue to park on the wrong side of the road. They are more concerned about the possibility of their cars being ‘keyed’ rather than the safety of residents and car users in this area.
