Brighter Bungo @ Moray Place this Sunday!

The next Brighter Bungo will be the weekend before Bungo in the Back Lanes, so everything looks spick and span.

However this coming Sunday, 5th June, we will be out trimming the vegetation on the railway side of Moray Place for a third time. This time we will concentrate between Queen Square & Regent Park Square, although we may do more if we have the volunteers. The council will deliver a cage in Moray Place in advance to aid clearing up; please don’t obstruct it. Bring loppers, spades, wheelbarrows, etc between 11 and 1 and give us a hand!

Hope to see you there.

Brighter Bungo – This Sunday 10th Jan, 11am

Alan Dobson is organising the latest Strathbungo Volunteer Clean Up this Sunday. Your support would be greatly appreciated, as always. Please meet at the corner of Nithsdale Road and Moray Place (Sammy Dows) at 11.00am. Equipment and training will be provided, as will tea, coffee & shortbread, with any luck!

To add to the fun, a small gang (Andrew & Stephen) intend to have a go at clearing some of the overgrowth through the Moray Place fence. Anyone willing to help out with this would be most welcome. If you have tools (loppers, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows) or are a dab hand with a petrol hedge trimmer, even better.

Brighter Bungo Goes Green

Nithsdale Road is a street brimming with potential in the heart of a fine neighbourhood but we all know it could be even better. Now the batching plant is packing up it’s a great time for the whole community to seize the opportunity and get cracking.

The Strathbungo Society is planning a community clean-up and planting day on Saturday May 5th from 10.30am as part of our ongoing Brighter Bungo scheme and Keep Scotland Beautiful’s National Spring Clean event.

Keep Scotland Beautiful is one of Scotland’s leading environmental charities. It works across Scotland cleaning and greening up communities, schools and businesses, and has been doing so since 1970. The state of Strathbungo’s litter problem is not going to change overnight but YOU can make a difference. The Society, Keep Scotland Beautiful and Clean Glasgow will supply the equipment and remove the waste – on our last Brighter Bungo clean ups we filled a skip – but we do need lots of willing volunteers.

We’ll be meeting at the planter near the junction with Moray Place but it won’t just be Nithsdale Road we’re cleaning. The more volunteers, the larger an area we can cover, so if you want to tidy up your street, back lane or verge, grab some neighbours and get stuck in.

Once the clean up is over, why not find out more about greening up your bit of the Bungo? We’ll be combining the clean up with a planting session, providing window boxes, some seeds and plants and lots of tips and ideas for perking up front gardens, planters and windowsills. So let’s forget cars and concrete and get working on flowers and foliage for a cleaner, greener, brighter Bungo.
