Strathbungo’s Railings
Some time ago, the Society developed an interest in the cast iron railings in Strathbungo. Those on the front steps to properties are in varying degrees of decay, and in many cases absent, while those at the street boundary were almost all removed during the war.
Research was undertaken to determine the pattern of the railings in each street, and the results are presented here. Research is ongoing into the issue of repair and reinstatement of railings, and further information will be added regarding grant assistance, suitable companies, etc.
Anyone who is interested in repair or reinstatement of railings is encouraged to contact the Society for advice and assistance.
Meanwhile here are the results of the research. Residents may also find the document of interest, since it includes several rarely seen historical photographs of the streets of Strathbungo, and the author can supply details of how copies can be obtained if anyone is interested.
