Saturday, 18 June 2005
1-4 pm

It’s back: Strathbungo’s 6th annual BUNGo IN THE BACK LANES is set for Saturday, 18th June so mark you diary and make it a date!
This year, why not have your own stall or help out with one of the Society’s?

Think about it: you might

  • contribute to the Society’s home baking stall or run your own
  • clear out your cupboards and sell your junk (that’s treasure to someone else!)– videos, CDs, toys, bric-a-brac, you name it!
  • sell handicrafts, art, jewellery, plants, etc
  • make up some tablet, fudge or jam to sell
  • get out the barbecue and start flipping burgers
  • donate unwanted new merchandise to the Society’s tombola
  • perhaps you do aromatherapy? other complementary therapies? fortune-telling?

Or go on, surprise us:

What makes Bungo events is Bungo people!
Your stall will add fun and variety to the day and you might also make a tidy profit–for yourself or your favourite charity. All we ask is a small contribution from your proceeds to the Strathbungo Society so we can continue to running activities in our community.

If you want to have your own stall this year
OR
If you’re willing to help the Committee in any way–put up stalls, blow up balloons, take a shift as a steward, help with children’s activities, contribute to any community stalls–before the event or on the day–

Thanks for the memories?

Workers at Queens Park have been left bemused by a series of memorial plaques with bizarre message.

Staff found the first plaque attached to a bench but were dumbfounded when they read the inscription.
It said: “In memory of my wife Carol. You made my life a misery. Thank God you are gone.”

Within minutes the same workman noticed a second plaque, this time planted near a cactus inside the Park’s glass house. It carried the message: “Planted in memory of my wife Peggie. Five good years. (Thirty years married, only five good years.) Bitch.”

A further search through the popular park found two other plaques attached to plants.

One read: “In memory of my husband Hughie, killed in a hunting accident while out with his attractive and deeply loving brother Frank.”

The final one was inscribed: “Planted in memory of Linda, the office girl I had an affair with for 16 years.”

City Council Parks boss Kenny Boyle admitted his baffled staff initially questioned whether the first plaque was a genuine message from a not-so-grieving husband. Mr Boyle said: “Someone with a sense of humour has gone to the time, bother and expense of getting these things made and attaching them in the park.

“It was only when the others were discovered that we came to the conclusion they were a joke.”

So okay — come clean! Who was it?
